There were runs for Trevor Meadowcroft (22) and Neil Griffin (12) who opened the batting. Skipper Griffin skied one with the score on about 30 odd, but was dropped, then a few overs later edged one off the opening bowler's last over to slips. Trevor's demise came unfortunately when he drove a ball into mid off's hands, having ironically executed exactly the same shot, albeit a bit softer, on the 'no ball' called by umpire G. Miller on the previous delivery.
